What is Functional Medicine Health Coaching?

Functional Medicine empowers clients and practitioners to work together to resolve the underlying causes of disease and promote optimal wellness through diet and lifestyle change.

Functional Medicine Health Coaches know there’s more to a healthy lifestyle than fad diets and unsustainable exercise regimens. There’s a gap between what clients know they need to do to be healthy and the intrinsic motivation they need to actually make and sustain those changes. Coaches bridge that gap.

Health Coaches connect meaningfully with clients and partner effectively with practitioners using cutting-edge research and techniques presented by our industry’s most influential experts.

Scientific support for the modifiable lifestyle factors embedded in the functional medicine approach is found in the extensive and rapidly expanding evidence base supporting the therapeutic effects of nutrition, exercise & movement, sleep, and stress management.

About Lindsey

Lindsey Ranzer PT, DPT, FMCHC, NBC-HWC

My entire life I have been passionate about health and wellness.

I graduated with an undergraduate degree in Health, Sport and Exercise Science from the University of Kansas and proceeded to earn a Doctorate of Physical Therapy at the University of Illinois @ Chicago.  After graduating, I focused my 10 year PT career working with patients in Critical Care Units.  Working in this setting as well as dealing with my own health issues, I began to discover the flaws of the conventional health care system.

I started to study the Functional Medicine approach and found the patient outcomes powerful.  For the first time in my career, medicine made sense.  My passion for as long as I can remember has been to help people achieve their optimal wellness.  In 2020, during the global pandemic, I made the decision to change career paths in order to accomplish exactly that.  I shifted my focus from sick care to health care.

Completing the certification program through the Functional Medicine Coaching Academy taught me not only about the pillars of Functional Medicine, but also how to use character strengths, positive psychology as well as a client centered focus to motivate clients to change behaviors in order to uncover the root cause of diseases and live a healthier lifestyle.  After receiving the Functional Medicine certification, I earned my status as a Board Certified Health and Wellness Coach and began helping clients. I watched transformations take place in them that gave me the meaning and purpose I had been searching for in my career.  Also, after years of seeing many specialists, I found relief from my own chronic health issues.

I enjoy working with my clients and their care team to create a client-centered wellness vision. Together, we establish action steps specifically designed for their lifestyle to achieve their optimal self.

My goal as a Functional Medicine Health Coach is to provide knowledge and support to create and maintain healthy behaviors resulting in the client’s best health and happiness.

Currently, I live in Bend, Oregon with my husband, son, daughter and Australian Shepherd. When not working with clients, you can find me with my family and friends outside adventuring. My favorite outdoor activities include rock climbing, hiking, skiing and SUPing.
